This test allows us to measure your blood pressure over a 24 hr period.
You wear a small monitor on a belt around your waist. A cuff connected to the monitor goes around your arm.
During the day this cuff inflates usually every 15 minuites allowing a recording to be made.
During the night the cuff inflates less frequently. The recording shows how you blood pressure varies through the day and night reflecting the changes that occur in every day life – as distinct from recordings made in the consultation room or surgery.
We encourage you to carry on normal activities whilst you are wearing the recorder. However you cannot use the shower, bath or go swimming during this time. In a small number of cases the recording fails for technical reasons and has to be repeated.
